A recent quote from Western Horseman summarizes our belief and approach to working with horses: Take all the time necessary, never rush, and never forget that tomorrow always holds promise of further progress.

Greg and Diane Horton moved to their farm in 2004. Since then, they have been building fences, a round pen, a riding arena, stalls, a wash area, an office, trail obstacles, and much, much more. Needless to say, their farm is their passion and there is never a dull moment at Horsegate Farm.

In 2009 Greg and Diane met Joyce Lewis of Safe Horse Training after riding with her in a Cowboy Clinic. It was one of those rare moments when you know you have found your niche. Joyce's focus on helping riders and horses learn a new sense of courage, while staying safe, is the perfect compliment to Horsegate Farm's goals.

In partnership with Joyce, Greg and Diane have had the pleasure of hosting Cowboy Clinics and Extreme Cowboy Races during the 2010 season and look forward to the 2011 season! During this time, Diane has also become a judge for the Extreme Cowboy Association.

Prior to this, Diane took part in a two year horse trainer certification program offered by Matt Gable of Gable Horsemanship.

As a John Lyon’s certified trainer  Matt has the knowledge, expertise, and patience to teach students from all disciplines, ages, and level of experience.

In November 2008, Diane completed Matt's program, which included topics ranging from advanced riding to colt starting. (click for Colt Starting photos).
