Estes Park, Colorado

Greg and Diane Horton moved to their farm in 2004. Since then, they have been building fences, a round pen, a riding arena, stalls, a wash area, an office, trail obstacles, and much, much more. Needless to say, their farm is their passion and there is never a dull moment at Horsegate Farm.

Advanced Riders Program

Diane has followed the John Lyons method of training since she first saw him at a symposium in the early 1990’s. In 2006, Diane decided to expand on her knowledge of horses by taking part in a two year horse trainer certification program offered by Matt Gable of Gable Horsemanship. As a John Lyon’s certified trainer and former apprentice of Ken McNabb, Matt has the knowledge, expertise, and patience to teach students from all disciplines, ages, and level of experience. In November 2008, Diane completed Matt's program, which included topics ranging from advanced riding to colt starting. (click for Colt Starting photos).

Saddlemaking in Process

Greg decided to expand on his interest in horses by learning about the saddle making business. In December 2005 he traveled to Colorado to learn the art of custom saddle making under the careful instruction of master saddle maker, Dusty Johnson. Greg spent two weeks at Dusty’s ranch building his own custom saddle, which has a special place of prominence in Greg’s saddle shop.
